Process

The process of creating a piece can vary widely depending on what form is being crafted. Regardless of form, every piece is built by hand out of stoneware and fired in a ceramic kiln at least twice. Most pieces are thrown on a wheel first and then hand-carved once at the right level of dryness. Each part of the process is handled carefully, and often depends on moisture levels in the air. A piece can sit for up to a week without drying or even dry within a couple days. The multiple variables that can occur keep potters on their toes.
Overall, A ceramic artisan has to be patient and attentive in the process and accept failure as a part of it.
